Floating 1" x 8" x 20" Petro-KwikSorb pads in storm drains has proven very effective in absorbing excess fuels and oils from the water surface. This size is recommended because of its ability to absorb approximately 40 ounces of product with each use. Simply squeeze out saturated Petro-KwikSorb sponge, record procedure on a Petro-Log, and return product to storm drain. Preventing petrochemicals from escaping into outflow is crucial to water preservation.
Oil/Water Separator Discharge:
Very successful results have been seen with the use of Petro-KwikSorb sponges in two or three compartment oil/water separators. The sponges are floated in the compartments to aid in the absorption of surface hydrocarbons and to help the separator to work properly. When saturated, the sponges should simply be wrung out and placed back into the separator. Cleaning the sponges is not necessary in this application because they are constantly in use.
Petro-KwikSorb will absorb up to 32 times its weight in petroleum products without absorbing water from compartment surface. When the hydrocarbons enter the Oil/Water Separator they begin a demulsification process at such time they rise to the surface. Floating Petro-KwikSorb on the surface will absorb any hydrocarbons discharged and prevent leaking. A regular maintenance program of this type will prevent hydrocarbons from being discharged to outflow. Be sure to place enough Petro-KwikSorb pads into the Oil/Water Separator to cover the surface or to absorb the project amount of hydrocarbons that might be discharged.
